Lower Back & Abdominal Routine

Often I see many articles on working just your abdominal and very little on training lower back or at least a combination of both. You have to keep in mind with your workout routine that isolating a particular muscle group is important but it’s just as important to balance out the surrounding and opposing muscle groups.

Most people evaluate themselves in the mirror and see their stomach (abdominal muscles) pushing over their waistline (excess body fat), never mind the fact that it extends all the way around their waistline. So they’ll focus on that area first and usually the only area that gets worked.

The best way to incorporate your lower back training is to train this muscle group prior to abdominal training. By training this muscle group first you’ll likely reduce the risk of injury and the fact that your motivation will be higher than if you were to wait to post abdominal training. In addition, you’ll stretch out the lower back before you start to exercise your abdominal muscles.

Remember, start off with lower back training first and as you become stronger and more advanced, you can incorporate the two muscles groups together . For now, focus on each muscle group separately and only combine the two to add a variation to your workout.
